I AM BECAUSE WE ARE
Relationships, Movement and Consciousness informed approach for Individuals with Autism
iBwe - a concept in which our sense of self is shaped by our relationships with other people.
It’s a way of living that begins with the premise that “I am” only because “we are.”
Coregulation lies at the heart of all human relationships.
“Step-Up was an eye opener for me. It gave a whole new perspective to my interactions with my daughter and the way we collaborate.
It showed me how to build a secured attachment with her where she feels safe, to be in tune with her and understand her needs, to talk to her about the implicit context of events, to help her move her body in purposeful ways, to be able to give her authentic challenges, to guide her to dynamically solve problems and break the rigidity of the world familiar to her, to show her that things are not perfect and that's OK and to give her the confidence to explore without the pressure of performance.
Mini ma'am is by far the most patient, dedicated and knowledgeable guide I have come across. You think you can learn RDI on your own by watching videos, until you receive her inputs on your interactions with your child. She has so much insight to offer! And you really start re-thinking a lot.
I changed and as a result my daughter stepped up and started showing an interest in things I never thought she would want to do. Mini ma'am makes each jargon of coregulation come to life through the Step-Up program. Wishing more and more parents benefit from this and take on the role of a mindful guide.”
“Prior to joining the Step up classes, we had some apprehensions about RDI, as we perceived it to be very confusing with a lot of redundant and unclear information from the web. However after joining the class with Mini Ma'am, our perspective of this theory changed completely as she simplified and explained it's concepts very clearly, allowing us to apply it in our life easily.
Mini Ma'am's feedback on our videos helped us learn as well as unlearn many nuances to better our interactions with our child. As we took baby steps into the world of coregulation, we understood how RDI is applicable to the parents to guide their children.
We have tasted just the tip of the iceberg, as RDI is a vast subject ,but it has definitely convinced us to explore more of it.”
“My goals when I joined the step-up program were twofold:
1) Motivate my son to get involved in day-to-day activities, and
2) Enhance his problem solving skills.
Mini ma’am was able to quickly identify to pinpoint the challenges my son was facing and design effective interventions to assist him in over-coming the challenges.
In working with my son and me, she has always ensured that I am constantly involved in the process and guiding
me to work at the pace that is best for my son.
She not only tells me what is to be done, but also why she is choosing a particular approach.
Knowing why I am following a specific approach with my son towards our goals allows me to become more involved, since my focus in now as much or more on the process and not just the goal.
This equips me to trouble-shoot better when the interventions take time, and more importantly knowing why I am following a particular approach gives me the necessary patience and persistence to keep going.
Seeing my involvement in this process has also resulted in both my daughter and husband gaining an improved understanding of my son’s need and they have also become involved in working with my son.
Making videos of my son working on his problem skills is now a family activity and my son thus feels involved in a larger activity. As a result, my son has made considerable progress in the two goals that we set out at the beginning. His social interactions have now seen a quantum leap as compared to where they were at the beginning and his level of confidence in doing things on his own are much much improved. Many thanks and much appreciation.”
“My son is 19 years old and I was going through a phase where I felt there was a lot of disconnect between me and my son I was also reaching a stage where I just did not know what I could do to help him with his anxiety and bhaviours.
I could not even do simple day to day activities with him, so finally I joined the Coregulation Program offered by Mini who is an RDI consultant.
During the program I learnt to move from instruction mode to just being fully present with my son and make him feel competent. This inturn brought about lot of changes in him where he was able to face challenges and use his memory and intelligence to come up with unique solutions.
The whole program has been a healing experience for me as a mother.”
